Pygmy Goats Need:
1. Safe Enclosure
2. Proper Fencing
3. Hay/Fresh Water/Minerals
* Grain is optional
4. A place to graze
* They like the weeds, brush, funky stuff
* They are weed-eaters NOT LAWNMOWERS
Your Pygmy will have been vaccinated at Birth, 6 weeks, and 10 weeks.
THEY WILL NEED AN ANNUAL VACCINATION OF CD&T.
YOUR VET CAN DO IT OR YOU CAN
BUY THE VACCINATION AND DO IT YOURSELF.
* You can get the vaccination from your vet or buy it at Tractor Supply.
Some people do preventative worming of their Pygmy goats, and others treat their goat for worms if they need to.
IT IS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE WHICH YOU WILL DO.
* It is very easy to worm a goat. You can do this yourself or have your vet do it.
* CONSULT YOUR VET ON THE BEST PLAN FOR YOU.
* Your Pygmy goat has had preventative worming treatments every month from us per our vet's recommendation.
Your goats feet will need to be trimmed. Unfortunately, goats can't go to the salon, so it will be up to you.
* It's actually easy to trim their hooves.
* You can do it yourself.
* HOOVES SHOULD BE TRIMMED AT LEAST EVERY 3 MONTHS.
* We trim goat's hooves every month.
GOATS ARE VERY TRAINABLE!!!
* Bribes go a long way
Here's a list of acceptable goat treats.
Here's a list of some things toxic to goats.
* Pick a time to feed your goats (if you choose grain)
- we feed at 9 am and 4 pm
* Goats can tell time!!! They will be waiting for you!
* Use the same phrase every time you want them do something.
- "Let's go!"
- "Time to eat!"
- "In your pen!"
* If you sit in the same spot every time you give them a treat or pet them, they will go to that spot to greet you.
- It's better to have them come to you than to chase them.
- IN AN EMERGENCY - HURRY UP AND HERD IS SCARED AND SCATTERED!!!
Walk your goat often on a leash.
You will thank me later!!!!
Take your goat for car rides often.
They will be less nervous in the future:
- Vet Visits
- Evacuations
- Moving to different locations
- Going to shows
